LESS WHINE, MORE WINE, vol. I

idk about the rest of y’all, but I LOVE a good bottle of wine. I’m not an expert by any means lol but I do know a thing or two. I’ve been trying to find more black owned businesses to support, and I decided to start with wine [listen, running a business, studying, balancing health + family ain’t easy — your girl needs a drink damnit!].

cue, the McBride Sisters wine collections. I stumbled across the McBride Sisters’ page on IG and I was immediately intrigued by the Black Girl Magic wines. I loved the packaging and more importantly, the message. described as “exceptional wine for exceptional women”, the Black Girl Magic collection features 6 types of wine, from Riesling to Merlot + each is made from a blend of grapes from wineries in both the US and New Zealand.

since I’m more of a white wine kinda gal, I went for the Riesling first. it has 13.5% ABV which [if you’re drinking alone] is enough to give you a slight buzz but not get you drunk [unless of course you drink the whole bottle in one sitting. that’s a little alcoholic-ish [for me], but go off boo!]. it’s a semi-sweet blend that tastes much better cold than room temperature. it starts off like the typical Riesling — when you first sip, you can taste the honey — but then when it opens up, you can taste the more fruity notes. and finally, it finishes off with a slightly tangy taste.

the only thing I disliked about this wine is that it tastes a little weird at room temperature — it has a slight aftertaste that isn’t necessarily bad, just different [but then when I read the product details on the McBride Sister’s website, it says to drink it chilled for best results so that’s on me lmao] — and besides that, I have no complaints whatsoever. the price is within normal range [for me $10 - below is cheap] and again, the packaging + brand message is bomb to me — not cheap at all but not insanely luxe.

OVERALL RATING: 4.5 stars

I would definitely recommend you babes trying the McBride Sisters’ Riesling! if you’ve tried any of their other wines, let me know whether you’d recommend them or not + also, send me some more [preferably black/minority owned] wine companies you think I should try!

xo, Elle
